12 Nazarbayev University teams received grants for the implementation of social projects
On October 1st, the NU Social Development Fund awarded the winners of the Jas Social Impact competition. These were applicants of the competition for social projects from among students, alumni, employees of NU, as well as representatives of the Social Development Fund.
The following 12 projects for a total amount of 11 million tenge became the winners of the competition.
- Kuk maisa, project leader – Zhanar Kulzhanova, MBA graduate of NU GSB. The project’s goal is to increase environmental awareness, familiarize with the principles of “zero waste” and instill eco-habits among schoolchildren in Nur-Sultan.
- Alaqan, project leader – Gaukhar Kiikova, 2nd year student of NU GSE, PhD in Education. The project is aimed at informing and supporting parents of children from 0 to 6 years old on the formation of healthy habits in five areas: physical activity, screen time, free play, water regime and the consumption of vegetables and fruits.
- Speak Qazaq – an online platform for teaching Kazakh language to children from 5 to 10 years old. The project leader is Dinara Ibraeva, a Master of Science graduate of NU SEDS.
- SauattyKeleşek, project leader – Zhuldyz Orazymbetova, employee of the Nazarbayev University library. The project’s goal is the formation of knowledge, skills and abilities of school librarians and students of the Akmola region in the field of media and information literacy, as well as inclusion.
- The iz Project (“iz” in Kazakh means “way”) aims to support adolescents from among the Kandas and their parents through sharing videos on social networks about opportunities and career choices in Kazakhstan, migration issues and integration into Kazakhstani society. Project leader – Bakytnur Inkar, a graduate of NU SEDS.
- RemiSee, project leader – Malika Vasilova, 2nd year student of NU SSH. The goal of the project is to ensure the availability of high-quality scientific education in the Kazakh language. To this end, the project seeks to create a complex product consisting of an online educational platform, printed materials and social initiatives based on volunteers.
- In Qazaq (IQ) is a project that offers relevant, useful content in the Kazakh language on the Internet in order to popularize the state language. The project leader is Beibit Zharylgasyn, 3rd year student of NU SEDS.
- FomoDoma is a podcast about personal finance and investment. The project leader is Indira Kyilybaeva, a graduate of NU GSPP. The project aims to provide as many Kazakhstanis as possible with access to up-to-date, understandable information about finance.
- Jarqyn.me, project leader – Gulbakhyt Tursymbaeva, a graduate of NU SSH. The aim of this project is to train and support initiative groups among students of Almaty universities to assist in strengthening the psychological health of young people in 3 universities.
- Tiny Greens, project leader – Zarema Balgabekova – 4th year student of NU SEDS. The goal of the project is to involve pensioners in Nur-Sultan in an active and social life in the post-pandemic period, to improve their health and show them the possibility of additional earnings in retirement through the cultivation of microgreens.
- Access to quality education is a project that will help 12 children from socially vulnerable categories of the population apply for a grant to the best Kazakhstani universities. The project leader is Arnur Gadylbekov, a graduate of NU SEDS.
- InfoSauattylyq. The project leader is Alexander Andryukov, an employee of the Nazarbayev University Library. The project’s goal is to raise awareness among universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan about academic honesty and conducting webinars and courses in information literacy and critical thinking for university students.
The Jas Social Impact competition is held to support social innovation in the Nazarbayev University community. This year, thanks to the NU/NIS + 1 principle, the participants of the competition were able to include representatives of other universities and external experts in their project teams. A total of 26 applications were received, almost half of them received funding and will be implemented by the end of 2022.
