GREEN PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF SUSTAINABILITY LIVING LAB OUTREACH PROGRAM WERE PRESENTED

On October 16, the Sustainability Living Lab Program Conference was held with the participation of representatives of higher educational institutions of Kazakhstan. The Sustainability Living Lab program is implemented by the Office for Sustainable Development of Nazarbayev University in collaboration with the National Conservation Initiative, with the support of Chevron.

The SLL program aims to support green university initiatives that contribute to the sustainable development of their campuses by empowering students, faculty and university staff to tackle real environmental issues through applied research and innovation; increasing the information education of the community in matters of sustainable development, etc.

The Sustainability Living Lab program, supported by Chevron, was launched at Nazarbayev University three years ago. Since 2020, the Sustainability Living Lab Outreach program has also been implemented at the I. E. Buketov Karaganda University, M. Kozybayev North Kazakhstan State University, Zhubanov Aktobe Regional University and at G. Daukeev Almaty University of Energy and Communications.

As part of the conference, program participants presented their green projects that have already been implemented at their universities as part of the Sustainability Living Lab Outreach program. Projects focus on improving energy efficiency, recycling plastic products, landscaping campus, finding alternative fuel sources, introducing green standards, and more.

In addition, representatives of universities shared their experience in the field of sustainable development, and students took part in an ecological master class on the manufacturing of various products from recycled paper.

Within the framework of the Sustainability Living Lab program at Nazarbayev University, more than 15 projects have been implemented aimed at improving the environmental performance of the campus. As part of the Sustainability Living Lab Outreach, 16 green student projects are changing environmental awareness and promoting sustainable development at four universities in the country.
