Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament, which was supposed to be held in the city of Nur-Sultan, was held online. This year the tournament gathered over 168 teams from top European universities. Although completely online, the debates were still very exciting and highly competitive.
“The competition was tough. We had the pleasure of debating against many teams, including those from Oxford, Cambridge, Tel Aviv University, London School of Economics, University of Edinburgh, and Leiden University. These institutions have historically been able to consistently produce the most compelling and forceful speakers, and we hope that our achievements this past week would pave the way for even greater victories to come for the Kazakhstani and Central Asian debaters”, said Alisher Juzgenbayev, team ‘NU A’ member.
Nazarbayev University was represented by seven teams: Alisher Juzgenbayev and Mukhtar Tashkenbaev (NU A), Adelya Dauletkyzy and Nazerke Mukhlissova (NU B), Samat Sayakov and Nurlan Muratbek (NU C), Dmitry Besedin and Amirlan Kassymov (NU D), Kanat Islambekov and Nursat Kulumkanov (NU E), Tleukhan Mussin and Ainagul Alzhanova (NU F), as well as Lyazzat Toleutai and Ali Duysebayev (NU G).
