Nazarbayev University and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory signed a Memorandum of Cooperation
National laboratory is being created at Nazarbayev University. President of Nazarbayev University Shigeo Katsu and Vice-president for innovation Kanat Baigarin visited Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (USA) where two sides signed a memorandum of cooperation.
The main purpose of the signed memorandum is to create a mutually beneficial research and academic partnership between Nazarbayev University and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
Memorandum will promote further active interaction in research, including joint symposiums and lectures, exchange of data and research results, internships of scientists and graduating students, and holding joint experiments and research.
Partnership will be lead in such fields like fusion, energy efficiency, renewable energy, material science, computer science and biotechnology. Also, the new center “Future Energy”, join project with EXPO-2017 is considered.
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is a national laboratory of the Ministry of Energy of the USA and is part of University of California. It was named after a creator of cyclotron and Nobel Prize winner E. Lawrence (1939). For its past history, 11 employees of National Laboratory received Nobel Prizes. More than 4000 people are working there, including 800 students and 300 visiting scientists from research centers from around the world.
Partnership with the world-renowned national laboratory like Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is very beneficial for a young and dynamically developing Nazarbayev University.
