NU returns to in-person classes

Dear NU Students,

As announced at the Town Hall meetings last week, during the Spring 2022 semester, Nazarbayev University will gradually return to in-person classes. Fully vaccinated students will be scheduled to arrive and reside on Campus on a week-by-week basis.

We are resuming in-person classes, based on the recommendations of all Schools and as documented in the Office of the Registrar schedule system. With the approval of the Deans, additional classes may return to in-person mode.

According to our schedule, by the week beginning March 14, around 70 percent of our classes will be in-person and almost all students will be back on Campus. CPS Foundation Students will, in general,  NOT reside on Campus, as many CPS students are under 18 years old and as yet to be vaccinated.

We plan to conduct the upcoming summer term in-person with no online classes; we also plan for in-person classes in the 2022-2023 academic year.

NU is a residential campus, and we focus on the health and safety of all students, staff, faculty, visitors, and all campus residents. Thus, we have to make provision for sufficient isolation rooms for any residents who may test positive. We have 180 rooms (360 beds) available for isolation. If Campus positivity rates remain below the threshold of approximately 10-20 percent, we will be able to increase the percentage of in-person classes.

Nur-Sultan City residents, who are fully vaccinated and prepared to take regular PCR tests, will have full access to Campus during the day. All students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated, masked, and tested on a regular basis to access campus.

With the health and safety protocols we have established, including frequent RAT and PCR testing, compulsory vaccinations and masks, physical distancing, and handwashing, we plan to check-in up to 500 students a week to our dormitories, starting from 31 January and finishing by 14 March.

Booster shots are strongly recommended. On many international campuses, booster shots are already mandatory.

All these precautions keep the Campus safe and healthy.

Students should refer to the Office of the Registrar website for University information, and contact their Schools for School-specific information.

The newsletters on the COVID-19 pandemic from the Managing Council will continue throughout the Spring Semester as an additional source of Campus-wide updates.
