NU Scientists to Discuss COVID-19 Spread at International Online Conferencе
On September 22-23, the International Scientific Online Conference “Actual Problems of Ensuring Biological Safety in Modern Conditions” will take place. The event will gather together more than 30 scientists from leading scientific organizations of the near and far abroad: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Armenia, Georgia, Belarus, as well as the United States, Argentina and Hong Kong. The main goal is to introduce scientists from different countries to each other, share knowledge, experience, protocols, discuss possible threats, and develop general recommendations for ensuring biological safety.
The SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus first emerged in Wuhan, China at the end of December 2019 and quickly spread around the world. To date, more than 250 million cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection have been recorded in the world. The infection has claimed the lives of more than 4 million people. However, according to experts’ forecasts, the world will face more serious diseases in the future. At the 74th World Health Assembly Tedros Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), said that “there will be another virus that may be more transmissible and more deadly than COVID-19.” And as we observe, the world is not ready for new threats. Therefore, it is more important than ever to unite the efforts of scientists, share new knowledge and existing experience, and start joint extended research.
The conference is organized by Nazarbayev University, Science Foundation of the Ministry of Education and Science and Almaty Management University (ALMAU University). The strategic partner of the conference is the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC). The conference is held with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science, as well as the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The event will be held online through a virtual platform. Information about the conference can be found here.
