School of Humanities and Social Sciences held the Closing ceremony of the Second Student Research Conference, where students and faculty presented their recent research projects

On November 24 School of Humanities and Social Sciences held the Closing ceremony of the Second Student Research Conference, where students and faculty presented their recent research projects.

The main aim of the conference was to promote research among the students and create a platform for the School students and faculty to discuss contemporary issues in humanities and social sciences.

This year more than 50 papers were submitted to SHSS, and 37 of them were presented at the panel sessions of the conference. The topics of the projects covered all fields of the humanities and social sciences. To name a few: political reforms in post-Soviet Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, IPO program in RK, “halal” phenomenon, influence of religion on the Kazakh identity, ruling mechanism in Yesenberlin’s “The Nomads”, gender issues in Kazakhstan, and this is just a small portion of topics that students are going to discuss.

Nazarbayev University is research-oriented university, and one of the key roles of  the faculty is to educate students on how to conduct professional research. To facilitate research incentives, the university regularly holds conferences, seminars, and exhibitions where students are able to demonstrate their research projects and sharpen their research skills.

Additionally, in the framework of this conference, Associate Professor of sociology and anthropology John Schoeberlein presented his latest research paper “What Kind of Country is Kazakhstan?” about multinational population of Kazakhstan and cooperation between  the citizens and government in the country.

It is worth noting that this conference is a concluding event of the Research Week at Nazarbayev University that started on November 24.
