V Eurasian Higher Education Leaders Forum 2016

May 26, 2016 at Nazarbayev University (entrance from 64 Turan Avenue) holds the jubilee V Eurasian Higher Education Leaders Forum (EHELF), which is an important event in the sphere of Kazakhstan’s education. 2016 Forum Topic – “Higher education and modernization of the economy: innovative and entrepreneurial universities”. The event program includes a plenary session with the participation of international and local experts, representatives of universities and the business community, as well as Nazarbayev University Sharing Experience sessions. The forum was attended by over 300 participants from Kazakhstan, CIS and foreign countries – Great Britain, Israel, China, the United States, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.

Participants share their views and their experiences during the discussion of the role of universities in the modernization of national economies. The key issues of the plenary session were the questions of the establishment of universities in knowledge-intensive and innovative industries, the preparation of modern human resources, how to create universities with modern, dynamic and capitalized knowledge, without damaging traditional academic values.

The speakers of the plenary session were Joseph Klafter, president of the Tel Aviv University, Israel; Asylbek Kozhakhmetov, president of Almaty Management University; Yerlan Sydykov, Rector of the Eurasian National University; and Nunzio Quacquarelli, managing director of the QS Rating Agency, United Kingdom.

The sessions on sharing experience of Nazarbayev University, which accumulated the latest achievements of science and education, played an important part in the forum. Professors and university staff conducted workshops on academic quality, corporate governance principles at Nazarbayev University and the improvement of management in higher education, research, preparing students for a rapidly changing future, and career guidance. Among the topical issues was inclusive education. Professors of the Graduate School of Education shared their experience in training leaders in the field of inclusive education through their MSc in Educational Leadership program, so far the first and only in Kazakhstan. Among the speakers of the seminar were bachelor’s and master’s degree students. One of the interesting topics was also raised at a seminar on student government in higher education.

In addition, two events were held under the auspices of the annual Eurasian Higher Education Leaders Forum 2016: professional seminar “Library cooperation – 2016: current world trends in the development of university libraries (Library Connect-2016)” and the V International scientific-practical conference “Modern trends in the development of university libraries: experience, problems and prospects – 2016 “.
