Nazarbayev University held a press-conference reporting the admission statistics for the academic year 2014-2015
This academic year 3,362 people applied to the foundation program, 771 successfully passed the entrance exams. 548 students, which is 16,3% of all applicants, were admitted to the University. Compared to 2010-2012, number of students who have successfully completed all entrance exams were higher up to 250 people.
Most of the students were accepted to the Schools of Science and Technology – 265 students (48.36%), School of Engineering accepted 217 students (39.60%), and School of Humanities and Social Sciences accepted 66 students (12.04%).
248 applicants applied through the Direct Admission process to the University’s bachelor programs, 91 of them were accepted. 43 (47.25%) direct admission students started their studies at the School of Science and Technology, 20 (21.98%) chose School of Engineering, and 28 (30.77%) students were accepted to the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Accepted direct admission students represent the following regions of Kazakhstan: Astana – 33 people, Almaty – 13 people, East Kazakhstan – 12 people, South Kazakhstan – 7 people, Zhambyl region – 6 people. Also, students who were admitted through the direct admission process came from the following schools: RSPMBS named after O. Zhaytykov – 12 students, NIS Astana – 9 students, NIS Semey – 9 people, NIS Ust-Kamenogorsk – 6 students, KTL for girls in Astana – 6 students, KTL Taraz – 6 students.
6 new Master degree programs (Msc in Biological Sciences, MEng in Engineering Management, MA in Political Science and International Relations, MA in Eurasian Studies, MA in Mutlilingual Education, Full-Time MBA (Master of Business Administration)) and one PhD program (PhD in Science and Engineering) were launched in 2014-2015 academic year. As a result total of 9 graduate programs and 2 PhD programs are currently being conducted at Nazarbayev University. This year 618 applicants applied to graduate programs: 215 were accepted to Master’s programs, 37 to PhD programs.
Most of the students were accepted to the Graduate School of Education – 105 Master’s and 11 PhD students; 25 Master’s and 26 PhD students will be studying at the School of Engineering; Graduate School of Business accepted 32 Full-Time MBA students.
Accepted graduate students came from the following regions of Kazakhstan: Astana (57%), Almaty (16%), South Kazakhstan region (8%), Karaganda region (5%), Aktobe region (5%).
Accepted Master’s and PhD students have worked in the following sectors: secondary and higher education; public sector, national companies and private sector.
This year foreign students from USA, China, Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Azerbaijan, India, Turkey, Singapore, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Pakistan and other countries applied for the admission. Among accepted graduate students there are 2 foreign students: one is the citizen of China, another is from Uzbekistan; one student from Mongolia, with a status of “oralman” was also accepted.
