NU Expands the Reach of Green Initiatives
The Sustainability Living Lab program, which started at Nazarbayev University two years ago, continues to expand its reach throughout Kazakhstan. The Sustainability Living Lab, which aims to disseminate experience in the implementation of green initiatives by university communities, intends to introduce similar programs at other universities in Kazakhstan beyond NU.
Now the program for implementing new green initiatives hopes to inspire students at M. Kozybayev North Kazakhstan University, K. Zhubanov Aktobe Regional University and Almaty University of Energy and Communications named after G. Daukeev. This program is implemented by Nazarbayev University’s Office of Sustainability and Development and the National Conservation Initiative Corporate Fund with support from Chevron.
The Sustainability Living Lab Program supports applied research, projects, and innovation meant to improve sustainable development and green initiatives of Kazakhstani university campuses by empowering students, faculty, and staff to undertake this work.
The Sustainability Living Lab initiative is designed to help unlock the intellectual potential and creative ideas of university communities. By promoting education of university communities in the issues of sustainable development the initiative facilitates the transformation of theoretical knowledge into real projects. When project participants implement their most interesting ideas they acquire new practical skills while improving their campuses.
Until April 30th of this year, the SLL is accepting applications from students at these universities for participation in the Sustainability Living Lab Outreach Program.
Previously the Sustainability Living Lab Outreach program has been implemented at E. A. Buketov Karaganda State University.
