NU professors received the “Best Researcher 2021” awards

Researchers at Nazarbayev University and the National Laboratory Astana (NLA) have been honored with the award for Best Researcher 2021. Among the winners are Ainur Akilzhanova, Head of the Laboratory of Genomic Personalized Medicine at the NLA, Zhumabay Bakenov, Director of the Center for Energy and the Science of New Materials at the NLA, Damira Kanaeva, Assistant Professor at NU SSH, Bakhyt Matkarimov, Leading Researcher at the Laboratory of Biosensors and Bioinstruments at the NLA, and Assiya Yermukhambetova, a postdoctoral scholar at NU SEDS. 

An award ceremony was held in the capital, where the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askhat Aimagambetov presented certificates and medals to the laureates. The award winners received six million tenge each.

This competition was organised for the first time in Kazakhstan by the Minister of Education and Science. In all, 575 researchers applied for the award in seven areas of study: the Natural Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Medicine and Healthcare, the Social and Humanitarian Sciences, the Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences, the Military Sciences, and National Security. Overall, 50 scientists from six research institutes and 16 universities from around Kazakhstan won awards.
