Where to study for the Master of Pharmacology and Toxicology program?
A pharmacologist is a professional person who studies the actions of medicines or chemical agents, the short or long-term toxic effects of medicines and other related chemicals on biological systems. Toxicologists specifically study the toxic effects of medicines, environmental, industrial or household chemicals on the organ system or the environment and can explain how a drug’s side effects occur.
Master of Pharmacology and Toxicology program at Nazarbayev University School of Medicine aims to teach students both of these two related and important fields together. In addition, students can pursue either specialty, Pharmacology, Toxicology; or can pursue them both if they wish. There are 10 scholarships for this specialty at the NU School of Medicine for this academic year. The application for the program is available here.
In the first year of the program, students will learn about different diseases, how they occur and how they could be treated. In addition, students will learn about the different stages of drug discovery process “from laboratory to pharmacy shelf”. In the second year, they will practice and apply their acquired knowledge through a master’s research project. Moreover, they will have a chance to study (optional) any other subjects to improve their knowledge and enhance their pharmaceutical entrepreneurship potential.
Importantly, the curriculum is intended to prepare students for the workforce as well as for postgraduate studies, Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Toxicology or any closely related fields.

- Undergraduate or Master’s degree
- GPA 2.75 out of 4.0 or equivalent
- IELTS 6.5 with no sub-score less than 6.0
